Master Students of Radiophysics Department Organized an Exciting Excursion to Siberian Physical Technical Institute

28 April 2018

The Master’s students of Radiophysics department Ali Yacoub,Rawan Samaan and Natalya Goleinova under guidance of an associate professor of the department of Quantum Electronics and Photonics Evgeniy N. Telminov and the English language lecturer Olga V. Kharapudchenko held an excursion to Siberian Physical Technical Institute.

Ali Yacoub and Rawan Samaan demonstrated the laser setup. The young researchers study the dye lasers. The dye lasers are lasers that use organic dyes as a lasing medium. They have a lot of advantages, such as they are tunable and have a wide range of wavelengths. These lasers are widely used in astronomy, medicine, spectroscopy, manufacturing, etc.

Natalya Goleinova told about OLEDs and showed different devices.OLED (organic light-emitting diode) is a semiconductor device made of organic compounds that effectively emit light when activated. OLED technology finds application in creating devices for displaying information. The advantages of OLED in comparison with plasma displays are the following: smaller sizes and weight, comparatively low power consumption, longer lifetime, capability to create flexible screens.

The first-year students asked Ali, Rawan and Natalya a number of questions about their scientific work, grants, and research opportunities.

The event was very lively and fruitful both for junior and senior students.

At Radiophysics department, it has become a wonderful tradition to organize excursions to scientific laboratories within the project “Foreign Language Competence Development of TSU Students”.
