TSU has celebrated 140 years since its founding

30 May 2018

On May 28, TSU celebrated its 140th anniversary. Founded by Emperor Alexander II in 1878, TSU became the first university in the Asian part of Russia. It was with the appearance of Tomsk University that the epoch of enlightenment began in the vast region of Siberia and the Russian Far East.

The cultural, educational, and scientific events with which the university is celebrating the anniversary will be held in two stages - in May and September.

May events are dedicated to students and will last all week. On May 28, a solemn dispatch of the Blue Arrow dispatch team took place; then a cheerleader festival, a meeting of the Academic Council to mark the best students and young scientists, the disputation of the Imperial Universities, and the international conference on new educational technologies #EdCrunch Tomsk (the Siberian version of one of the largest conferences in Europe) will be held.

The main event will be a theatricalized procession of TSU students and teachers. It starts on June 1 at 18.00, and the theatrical column will process from Lenin Square to the main building of TSU.

In the evening of June 1, at the University Grove on the platform near the Center of Culture, the Cube of the Imperial University will be awarded. This cube was established last year - students talked about their lives in the flash mob format Mannequin Challenge, and the Physics Department was the best. This time, the theatrical columns during the march will be evaluated.
