Tomsk State University has improved its position in the ranking of the British edition of Times Higher Education for countries with actively developing economies (THE Emerging Economies University Rankings) by 24 points. In total, while preparing the ranking, more than 350 universities from 42 countries of the world were analyzed. TSU ranked 36th among all universities and 6th among Russian universities. In terms of internationalization indicator, TSU demonstrated the second result among Russian universities.

The performance indicators are grouped into five areas: Teaching (the learning environment); Research (volume, income, and reputation); citations (research influence); International outlook (staff, students, and research); and industry income (knowledge transfer). In total, 27 Russian universities were included in the ranking.

- The THE ranking is one of 10 international rankings in which the university participates and which is taking into account gathering information about the status of the university in the international community. Nevertheless, work with rankings is secondary to real changes in the university, rankings are only a consequence of the implementation of the road map for the development of TSU within the framework of Project 5-100, - commented Vladimir Dyomkin, Vice-Rector for Network-Based Information Activities. - In many respects, TSU's position in the ranking was promoted by the university's entry into international collaborations: ATLAS, TOTEM and CMS collaborations at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN; an international network of stations for the Arctic study of INTERACT, to the collaboration of research of the Northern and Arctic and marine ecosystems CRENAME; Association of Universities of Russia and India, Association Global Universities, and others.

The best result among Russian universities in the Emerging Economies University Rankings 2018 showed Lomonosov Moscow State University, the second place is MIPT, the third is MEPhI.
