TSU has launched a Master's programme for specialists in innovation

20 June 2017

From this year, TSU and the Siberian State Medical University, with expert support from the Maastricht University (Netherlands), begin a new Master's programme - Innovations and Society: Science, Technology, and Medicine.

The programme is the first of its kind in Russia, and is aimed at managers in science, innovation, and health, managers of innovation institutes, and technology entrepreneurs. Graduates of different specialties can enter this Master's programme.

A student may choose one of two specializations: Innovations in Health and Medicine and Management of Technoscience. These specializations are part of the Science and Technologies Studies area, which studies how social, political, and cultural values affect the development of science and technological innovation, and vice versa. Special attention is paid to the topic of medicine and health.

Training in the Master's programme will be built on the principles of a problem-oriented approach:

- At the basis of every unit is the problem that the teacher poses to graduates. They discuss it, read literature, and look for some kind of data. Then they discuss again, and after that, a teacher gives a lecture that stabilizes all knowledge, - says Evgenia Popova, director of REC Sociopolitical Research of Technologies. - All the problems that we set before the students are interdisciplinary.

During the whole term of study, Master’s students perform a group project. The task for the project can be formulated by the employer and is aimed at solving the actual task of the company.

The training will be conducted in Russian, and upon its completion, Master’s students will receive TSU diplomas, and for individual courses - certificates of the University of Maastricht (the Netherlands) and the Siberian State Medical University.

During the training, students can take internships at the Maastricht University, the Free University of Amsterdam (the Netherlands), and the University of Plovdiv (Bulgaria) and receive an official certificate.

The partners of the programme are Russian and international universities: Maastricht University (Netherlands), the Free University of Amsterdam (Netherlands), University of Plovdiv (Bulgaria), Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University), Siberian State Medical University (Tomsk), and European University at St. Petersburg. Since June 2017 the Potanin Foundation has also become a partner.
