Students from Singapore will start speaking Russian at TSU

8 December 2016

TSU has begun the Winter School of Intensive Russian for students of Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), a world university that took 13th place in the QS World University Rankings 2015/16. This school was one of the first steps in implementing the Memorandum of Understanding signed in September 2016.

- The purpose of these schools is the development of mutual academic mobility and long-term partnership to ensure that students and staff can have internships, Master's degrees, and joint research projects. The first step is winter and summer schools where representatives of universities get to know each other and find possible areas of collaboration, - says Lydia Zhuleva, head of Department of Social Adaptation and Support of International Students of TSU’s International Division.

For 12 days, students from Nanyang Technological University will intensively learn the Russian language and Russian culture. In addition to the lectures, TSU will hold a series of master classes in painting matryoshka and Russian folk dance and costume. Part of this will be held in conjunction with the art project Vasiliev Evening. A tour to the park Okolitsa and the museums of Tomsk and TSU are also planned.

- I read about Siberia, about Tomsk, I know that there are many universities here and TSU is the oldest - said Amanda Tuh. - Your city is beautiful and people are friendly. I hope that I will be able to learn the basics of the Russian language at TSU and then continue to study it at home.

TSU and the Nanyang Technological University are planning a three-week summer school of the Russian language for students from Singapore.
