TSU is in the top 5 Russian universities in the BRICS countries

The consulting company Quacquarelli Symond (QS) has published its ranking of the best universities of the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa). Tomsk State University took 43rd place in the ranking. This ranking is one of the best among Russian universities.

QS World University Rankings: BRICS 2016 assesses universities on 8 indicators: academic reputation and employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, papers per faculty member, web impact, citations per paper, staff with a Ph.D., international faculty, and international students.

TSU ranked 43rd place, up one compared to the previous year because of increase in the “papers per faculty member” indicator for TSU scientists’ scientific papers.

- The rating of the BRICS contains dynamically developing Chinese universities, so some Russian universities have not kept their positions. Therefore we are pleased that we are one of the few Russian universities to confirm and slightly improve its position - says Victor Dyomin, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs – The ranking among the BRICS countries is particularly important because we are actively cooperating with the universities of Brazil, India, and China.

The Vice-Rector noted thatTSU is responsible for organizing the interaction of one of the five subject areas, Environment and Climate Change, in the BRICS Network University. In addition, Tomsk State University is the coordinator of the Association of Universities of Russia and India.

In the QS World University Rankings Tomsk State University is in the 481–490 group, and in the top 300 in the subject areas Physics and Astronomy and Modern Languages. TSU improved its position by 112 lines in the international reputation rating Round University Ranking (RUR), and entered the top 10 universities in the country for many indicators in the first objective rating of Russian universities. It also occupies the 20th place in the QS University Rankings: Emerging Europe & Central Asia (QS EECA) 2016.
