TSU has good results in the U. S. News Best Global Universities 2021

Tomsk State University has shown positive dynamics for the third time and entered the top 500 of the prestigious American ranking U. S. News Best Global Universities 2021, which is distinguished by very strict criteria for selecting participating universities. The focus of the rankings is on research and the academic reputation of universities. In the Russian sector, the top 500 also includes MSU, MIPT, MEPhI, SPbPU, and NSU.

U.S. News Best Global Universities ranking has been published for more than 30 years for American universities, and it is being published internationally for the seventh time. To be ranked, a university must either be in the top 250 in the Clarivate Analytics global reputation survey or have at least 1,250 publications in the Web of Science Core Collection database from 2014 to 2018.

- Tomsk State University has passed a new milestone and taken 490th place in the ranking. In total, for the 3 years of entering the TSU's ranking, it has risen by 211 points. This is a major serious breakthrough, which shows the strength of our university's science, - said Alexander Vorozhtsov, TSU Vice-Rector for Scientific and Innovative Activities. - Special attention should be paid to the physical sciences personnel of the university: this year we are again represented in the Physics subject ranking, where we occupy the 170th position, having also risen from last year.

TSU is a classical university, and at the same time, it occupies quite high positions in subject (industry) rankings, which means research leadership in the creation of new technologies and innovative products. According to the new U.S. News Best Global Universities, the following positions of TSU in subject areas are determined: Materials Science is 295th in the world (fourth in the Russian Federation), Engineering Sciences is 310th in the world (third in the Russian Federation), Chemistry is 401st.

19 Russian universities were included in the ranking. TSU demonstrated stable growth, having improved its position by 19 points compared to the previous year.
