3 students from China with double degrees chose a TSU master’s program

26 June 2019

Ten students who came from China to study at Tomsk State University in the double degree program with Shenyang Polytechnic University received bachelor's degrees in philology in June. Three of them chose a master’s program of the TSU Faculty of Philology to continue their studies.

This is a significant result, notes Svetlana Fashchanova, associate professor at the Russian Language Department of the Faculty of Philology. Usually graduates try to continue their studies at universities in Moscow or Saint Petersburg.

- Perhaps one of the reasons for choosing TSU as the university for their master’s work was the university’s increased positions in the rankings, and the high ranking (group 100-150) in the Modern Languages area in the QS World University Rankings by Subject. In addition, in recent years, the support of the social life of international students has noticeably improved, thanks to the Center for Social Adaptation of the TSU International Division, which affects the quality of their life in Tomsk, - says Svetlana Fashchanova.

TSU has implemented a joint program with Shenyang Polytechnic University since 2010. Under the program, students from China study for the first two years at their university and come to TSU for the third and fourth years. At the end of their undergraduate studies, they receive two diplomas - Chinese and Russian.

The first graduation of such students was in 2012, when 12 graduates received diplomas in the philology specialty. In total, 86 philologists with double diplomas have graduated during the program.

Since last year, two chemists, four programmers, and one economist are studying at TSU under the double degree program with Shenyang Polytechnic University.
