21 March 2018

Eduard Galazhinsky , the TSU Rector, and Patrick Loughrey, CEO of Goldsmiths, University of London, have signed an agreement on creating a Master’s double degree program Big Data & Data Science, the first such in Russia. They also discussed joint work in cultural research, psychology, genetics, and neuroscience.

- Our collaboration is developing. In particular, the laboratory under the guidance of Professor Yulia Kovas, Goldsmiths, University of London, and TSU is working effectively. And we have opened a branch of it in Sirius, the center for working with gifted children, - noted Eduard Galazhinsky. - I am sure that collaboration in Big Data will also be effective. In addition, we would like to expand our collaboration with Goldsmiths in cultural research.

At TSU, the Master's program with a double diploma will be implemented at the Research and Education Centre of Computer Science and Technology and the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science (IAMCS). The studies will begin September 1, 2018. For that academic year, students will study in Tomsk, and after that they will study in London. Graduates will solve problems in promising areas of human activity at the intersection of computer, natural, and social sciences, for example, early diagnosis of oncological diseases, forecasting the value of securities and crypto-currencies, forecasting socio-political processes and corruption, and intellectual prediction of complex equipment.

- You are growing quickly, it allows you to get government help. Our origins and history are similar, and I think we have a great future, - said Patrick Loughrey, CEO of Goldsmiths.

The Rector of TSU proposed developing an online course that will present the program on the Coursera platform, and he spoke for expanding collaboration in research and media projects. In the near future, concrete proposals for international colleagues will be formed.

On Wednesday, March 21, at 11:30 at TSU will be an open lecture by Patrick Loughrey on TV Broadcasting and Government - the BBC Story. The lecture will be in English.

Since 2016, TSU and Goldsmiths, the University of London since 2016 have been implementing the Master's program Human Development: Genetics, Neuroscience, and Psychology, based in the International Centre for Research in Human Development (ICRHD)  This is the first Master's program at TSU to be fully in English, and the teachers are both Russian and international scientists.
