Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd has published the results of the QS World University Rankings by Subject. 48 subjects were ranked in five areas. In Arts and Humanities and in Natural Sciences, TSU made a breakthrough and moved from the fourth to the third hundred of the best universities in the world. In Engineering and Technology and in Social Sciences and Management, the University entered the ranking for the first time, immediately showing good results.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject rank is based academic reputation, employer reputation, and research impact.
In the group of natural sciences, TSU took 293rd place, significantly improving its last year's result (then the University was in the group 401-450). In this area, achievements in chemistry, the earth sciences, and environment, geography, mathematics, physics, and materials science are taken into account.
For the second year in a row, university physicists occupy high positions in the group of 201-250, and these results are ensured by their systematic, long-term work in world-class projects. TSU is the only representative of Russia in the TOTEM collaboration and a full member of the ATLAS collaboration at CERN. Now Tomsk State University and CERN are expanding collaboration on microelectronics and detectors, which TSU produces for the Large Hadron Collider.
The transition from the fourth hundred to the third occurred in the arts and humanities. Here, the University rose to the 289th place, having improved its last year's result by 39 points. Particular successes were noted in the sphere of modern languages - in this subject TSU rose from the group 251-300 to the group 201-250.
Tomsk State University also entered the ranking in two areas for the first time - Social Sciences and Management (385th place) and Engineering and Technology (group 451-500). In the second area, the subjects Computer Science and Information Systems (451-500) and Engineering - Mechanics, Aviation, and Production (351-400) were separately marked.
- The University has moved very powerfully in this ranking in a number of positions, in social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering. In general, we are already in the range from the top 200 to the top 500 in different areas, and here it is not the details that are important, but the movement itself, the progress,- said Eduard Galazhinsky, Rector of TSU. - A ranking is a mirror by which the university measures its movement. Today we are proud that almost half of all publications of the university are in top journals and[OU2] the best publications of the world. This is another testament to the work of the whole team.
