TSU entered the top 60 best universities in the Times Higher Education

2 December 2016

An annual Times Higher Education BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings 2017 with the best universities in Brazil, Russia, India, China, South America, and other developing countries was published. Tomsk State University ranked 60th in the list and thus improved its position by 27 points compared to last year.

Times Higher Education BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings exists the fourth year. The activities of higher education institutions are estimated at 13 indicators in 5 areas: teaching (learning environment), research (volume, income, and reputation), citations, international outlook, and industry income.

This year for the first time the company has compiled a list of the top 300 universities of 41 countries with emerging economies (last year only 200 best universities were published in the ranking)

If we analyze the position of universities in China, India, and Brazil in recent years, we can see that their number in the ranking is growing and positions are constantly improving. With the development of ranking and promotion to its top the competition is very exacerbated, - said Artyom Rykun, Vice-Rector for International Affairs.

According to the Vice-Rector, only 23 universities from China were included in THE BRICS & Emerging Economies -2014 and in 2016 their number is already 39. However, the number of universities from Russia is also growing each year, and if in 2014 the list included only two universities, the last year already 15 were on the list.

- This means that the higher education institutions of our country are able to repeat the success of their counterparts from China and India, but they will have strong competition. 27 points, which took TSU for this year, are the points with increasing degree of rigidity, and therefore our growth is extremely valuable - said Artyom Rykun.
