TSU will be a key educational partner of Laos in Russia

On November 2-7, a TSU delegation headed by Rector Eduard Galazhinsky is visiting the Lao People's Democratic Republic. During the visit, several agreements will be signed, including a memorandum on collaboration in IT training and research from the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Lao PDR. It will be the first agreement between the Russian university and this government in Southeast Asia.

- Laos is a small but important country: it remained loyal to Russia from Soviet times, and in addition, this year the Lao PDR is chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations - a key area in the international policy of our country, - said Artyom Rykun, TSU Vice-Rector for International Relations. - So collaboration in education and science is one of the most effective areas of interaction.

According to the Vice-Rector, now the Lao Ministry of Science and Technology considers TSU a key partner in the area of IT-technologies, the parties are ready to discuss collaboration in training and research projects.

In particular, the agreement will provide training for high-tech enterprises in Laos, including innovative ones. In addition, the Lao PDR is interested in technology in the area of computer electronics, which are developed at Tomsk State University: security systems, medical diagnostic systems, and others.

According to the Vice-Rector, a contract for the supply of software to Laos will also be signed with the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Lao PDR. It will implement the e-government system – an automated document management system. A Ministry officer, Phonpaset Sulinthon, a student in the TSU Master’s programme Information Systems and Technology, participated in creating this software.

- We will sign an agreement with the Ministry on access to electronic resources of TSU, which will organize the remote exchange of information and online advice on vital issues - added Artyom Rykun.

In addition, the TSU delegation will visit the National University of Laos (NUOL). The sides will discuss the possibility of training employees at TSU and modernizing research activities at NUOL.

- Also, we will conduct negotiations on organizing collaboration with other universities in Laos and increasing the number of candidates from the Lao PDR to study at TSU under the direction of the Ministry of Education of Russia, - said the Vice-Rector of TSU.
